Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Come Volunteer on January 19th!

Hello arts-X-press Alumni!

Here is another fun event at which you can earn valuable volunteer hours for your school or just have fun helping children learn about music.

Saturday, January 19, 2008 is our first Musical Storytime Event of the season. We always need lots of volunteers for these concerts. We have several ways that people can help us at these evnts. Some volunteers will help greet families as they come to the event and make them feel welcome. Other volunteers will help lead hands-on activities and games for children to play. Still other volunteers will participate in the event, helping children and families sing, dance, and play instruments. There is a lot to do and it is a great time as well!

If you have a friend or family member who would like to volunteer with you, please bring them along. We welcome volunteers ages 12 years and older!

Here’s a description of the event:
· Fun With Exercise! During a series of songs that focus on exercising, work in a group with others of the same age to create a fun and exciting exercise sequence. Sing a song and play instruments, too.

There are two different times for volunteering. You can volunteer for one or both of these events:

8:15am-1pm: at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa

2-6pm: at the Mission Viejo City Hall in Mission Viejo

As you can see, if you are earning volunteer hours for your school in one quick morning or afternoon you will have racked up 4-5 hours of community service! And we DEFINITELY offer snacks for our volunteers!

Please reply to me at
musicalcarnival@pacificsymphony.org if you are interested in volunteering for the Musical Storytime Event on January 19. I will send you all the information you need. If you enjoy this opportunity, we have several more events throughout the school year at which you can join us!

Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Mollie Fry
