Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

New arts-X-press Coordinator Job Opening!

Dear arts-X-press Alumni,

This summer 2008 marks the eighth year of our arts-X-press program, the Pacific Symphony’s arts immersion program at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) for middle school arts students. Because of your association with the Pacific Symphony and your experience and knowledge of the arts we would like to invite you to apply for a very special new staff role, arts-X-press Coordinator!

This three-week program serves 150 middle school students from throughout Orange County in the fields of instrumental music, vocal music, drama, dance, and visual art. Not only do the students participate in workshops during the week, but we also go on excursions to such locations as the Pageant of the Masters, Festival of the Arts, Orange County Performing Arts Center, and Pacific Symphony concerts.

The arts-X-press Coordinator is a part-time administrative staff role for people aged 21 years or older. This role is very different from being a student or a counselor with the program. It requires a great deal of responsibility and time. As an arts-X-press Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to work with the Pacific Symphony staff creating and managing arts-X-press for the summer. You will serve as a role model for the counselors and students and make a little money over the summer! This position is great for college students or recent college grads looking to gain more experience in the arts administration field or add a great job to their resume. At this time, you do not have to be a member of the arts-X-press alumni to apply.

The Coordinator may work one or two of the weeks of arts-X-press onsite at UCI and the remaining weeks in the office as support staff and is paid an hourly salary. To apply you must be 21 years old or older, be very enthusiastic about the arts, and willing to work hard for great personal reward. The dates for the program are: Aug. 2-6, Aug. 9-13, and Aug. 16-20, 2008.

If you are interested in applying to be an arts-X-press Coordinator, please contact me, ask for a Coordinator application by February 29, 2008, and leave your full address (slowly) if you get my voicemail at: (714) 876-2343 or rligatti@pacificsymphony.org. I am happy to answer any questions about the program and the duties of a Coordinator. I look forward to receiving your application.

If you know someone else who would be interested in this position, please feel free to forward this e-mail to him/her.

Thank you for your interest!

Sincerely,

Rachel
