Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

arts-x-press Volunteers at Musical Storytime!

On Saturday, February 2, several arts-X-press alumni members were able to do some good in the community, earn volunteer service hours, and hang out with the Pacific Symphony all at the same time! Alvin, Daniel, Lauren, Christy, and Susanne helped children play musical instruments like the hand drums, guiro, maracas, tone blocks, and violins before a Musical Storytime event in Mission Viejo.

Then, after showing the children the instruments, the arts-X-pressers participated in the Musical Storytime, leading activities, playing instruments, and helping to tell the story of how two characters visited the clock shop.

Our class leader, Joe Berarducci, told me in the car ride home how his favorite volunteers are the ones from arts-X-press. He says all of you are the most attentive to the children’s needs and understand how important it is to be kind and supportive of the kids as they take their own creative risks! Of course, we already knew those things about all of you, but it’s nice to know other people recognize your strengths as well!

If you think this volunteering sounds fun and you would like to get involved, or receive more information, please e-mail us at

arts-X-press@pacificsymphony.org. We hope to hear from you soon!

Warmly,
Rachel
