Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Fun at Festival of Arts

(Sorry for the side view -- it's hard to understand why you can't flip pictures in Google blogs at 1 a.m.! We'll try to get these fixed once we've had some sleep.)

Well it was another fabulous day here at arts-x-press. We kick started our day with a delicious and nutritious breakfast followed by the creative expression and arts workshops, however it was after lunch that the fun really started because as anyone should know Monday at AXP is the Laguna Art Festival!! Yes you heard right!! We were very fortunate enough to be the only group to actual tour backstage for Pageant of the Masters and the kids got an inside look into a wonderful theater production. They also got the opportunity to do some fun and creative art projects which included scratch art, print pressing, and even painting their own fire-glazed raku pots!!! After our crafts we got the chance to look at a very diverse collection of art from many different artists, occasionally getting to speak with the artists themselves and ask them about their profession and inspiration. We then took a nice brisk walk to a beautiful park overlooking the ocean and had some delicious a-pizza pies for dinner. It was there that our young artists practiced what they were going to do for their talent show. Finally we made our way back to the festival to enjoy The Pageant of the Masters, which if you have not seen for yourself it may be a little hard to picture! Well thanks again for dropping by the arts-x-press blog, tune in tomorrow for more!!! :D
