Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Sunday CE

Good morning from Michal's CE Class!

Each morning, we gather together for some Creative Expression-ing. Our group is made up of Spunky Sammy, Happy Hannah, Violinist Vincent, Intelligent Ileana, Hyper Hannah, Zany Zoe, Perky Patrick, Awesome Alex, Broadway Blake, Amazing Asaph, Kind Karen, Jazzy Jenna, and Running Rachel.

First we journal while we listen to music, writing about our day and then thinking about a Discovery about the previous day and a Goal we have for the upcoming day. Then we journal about our experiences, like meeting the bus, getting to know new friends, eating new food, stepping out of our comfort zone, and taking risks.

Then we do an activity. Yesterday, we thought about doors of opportunity and wrote poems and stories based off of a picture of a door. Today we took some time to close our eyes and visualize ourselves when we were five-years-old, and then nine-years-old and think about what we did, what we liked, our families, where we lived, how we acted, etc. Then we stepped out of our comfort zone and started thinking about what we might be like when we were eighteen and then reallllllly got crazy when we thought about ourselves as the ripe old age of thirty! Parents, you don't want to know the reactions of your kids when I said to think about yourself at age 30!!

Then we started to create life maps, looking at where we are, where we've been, and where we are going. It's been fun to think about our futures and how we are who we are because of our experiences!

Looking forward to what tomorrow might bring!
