Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

What's up everyone! This is Bryan and Ernie, the dynamic duo counselors also known as Bernie. The spectacular day commenced as usual with an early start and a healthy breakfast to provide us the energy needed for all the activities that followed. After breakfast, our very first activity was CE where the kids were able to reflect and express how they felt about the major activities of the day before. For example, today the kids made advertisements for the "In the Heights". Next, the campers proceeded with their normal arts workshops, and headed off to lunch. Fortunately we were privileged to have special guests from the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and ate with them. The kids were given the opportunity to ask the musicians questions about what it's like to be in a professional orchestra! After lunch, we boarded the bus and headed over to Laguna Beach to see the Pageant of Masters! We arrived a little early so the campers were able to interact with some art forms and made print making art, raku pots, and scratch art! After that we hiked up to Heisler Park in Laguna Beach and had dinner next to the ocean (so fresh ahhhh). Once we were all full and filled with pizza, we went back down to Pageant of the Masters to look at the artwork of local professional artists. Finally we seated ourselves for the grand finale and watched the show of Pageant of the Masters, where people posed in large-scale recreations of famous paintings(which was extremely cool). When the show ended we arrived back on Vanguard later than usual and everyone couldn't wait to hit the hay!!!
And this is a picture of Becky with a burnt bagel!! Until next time!
