Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Day Two by Gema

Day Two started off early with wake-up at 7am. Counselors used all types of tactics to make sure everyone was awake, some blasted music, some knocked gently on the doors etc. After breakfast, students had a long walk to their Creative Expressions classrooms. Arts Workshops were next, followed by lunch at the Mesa Commons! After that arts-X-pressers took a short bus ride to OCPAC to see American Ballet Theater’s presentation of Sleeping Beauty. Since it was the last show, students got to see the stage taken apart by crew afterwards while they got to speak to professional dancers. Everyone had lots of questions! After the show, arts-X-press headed back to UCI and to dinner. After dinner the students watched a quick PSYO presentation, and then headed to their Drama Workshop with Marjorie Gaines in Studio 4. The students and staff had a blast brushing up on their acting skills. That night in addition to Bonding the Counselors read the results from their morning room checks. Sounds like not everyone made their bed! After that, everyone headed to bed for some much needed sleep!
