Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Week One Day Four

On Tuesday, we spent all day on the UCI Campus.

In the morning, all the students went in their daily routine to Creative Expression and Arts Workshop. It was their last time to prepare for what they were going to do that night at the Parent Presentation. From there, we went to eat lunch where we got to dine with Pacific Symphony musicians.

Right after lunch, the students all took part in an instrumental workshop with six of our Symphony musicians. The musicians shared a little bit of information about the instruments and then "WOW"ed the students with a variety of musical genres. The students then joined and created music with the musicians and their fellow arts-X-pressers. Once the Symphony musicians left and after a quick bathroom break, the students got to work on another side of their musical talents in a vocal workshop led by Carver Cossey.

Once they finished with their workshops for the day, they had time to prepare to showcase their own talents. Time flew by and then it was time to share all the hard work they had done at the Parent Presentation. The students were able to share with friends and family, what they had been working on all week long. It was also a great opportunity for the students to see what their friends had been working on in their own classes.

We said our "good-byes" to family and friends and sang the arts-X-press song, we went over to Nixon Theatre to our Talent Show. All the students cheered each other on as they shared their talents with fellow friends and arts-X-press staff. Their talents were many and great!!!

As our night was starting to come to a close, there was one last thing we had to do...PARTY! We got to enjoy lemonade, brownies and fruit while we got to hang out and dance to some popular songs...

arts-X-press was starting to come to an end and a lot of the students were sad that they were going to only have one more day with their new friends...
