Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Day One Week One!!!

We had a great first day of arts-X-press yesterday! Students arrived and got right to work, enjoying ice breakers we call 'New Games,' Arts Workshops and Creative Expression Classes.

Lunch was also a great time, as we got to see all the yummy food choices and get to know one another.

During Arts Workshops students were introduced to their instructor as well as the various projects they would be working on. Creative Expression was a wonderful time for reflection, expression and creativity as they journaled, made mandalas, and much more!

After a great morning and afternoon of meeting new people and trying new things, we all loaded in the bus and drove to Verizon Wireless Amphitheater for Pacific Symphony's Summer Concert featuring the music of George Gershwin. We arrived early and were privleged enough to go on a backstage tour, led by the Pacific Symphony Stage Manager Eric Moser. A wonderful picnic dinner followed along with a visit from Pacific Symphony Music Director, Carl St.Clair also made for a wonderful experience.
