Arts-X-press is a summer arts immersion program for 7th and 8th grade students created by the Pacific Symphony in celebration of Cole Carsan St.Clair. 150 students are nominated by teachers throughout Orange County to come together for 5 days of creative exploration each summer. The program has two goals: 1) To expose students to all 5 performing and visual arts; and 2) To foster respect for and interest in each student’s individuality, talents, interests, and background.

Oh my goodness! What a great time we're having today! Your campers got their creative juices flowing in their Creative Expressions classes, where they use free-form writing, different styles of poetry, and learn how to verbalize their thoughts and feelings more clearly.

The next stop is their super-awesome Arts Workshop, where they are busy learning and growing in their visual or performing arts as well as preparing for their fun Parent Presentation. Here at a-X-p, we focus on the process and not the product, which takes pressure of the students and allows them the opportunity to take creative risks and find what works best for them; it's not about trying and failing or succeeding, it's about trying and finding out what works or doesn't and understanding why and finding the joy in the process.

We got to see a FANTASTIC production by 3-D Theatricals at Plummer Auditorium - Tarzan, the Musical! The campers really enjoyed it, with a lot of singing, dancing, flying through the air, beautiful sets, and even a Talk-Back session right after the performance where they got to ask different cast members about anything they wanted!

Right now, your students are off experiencing the other art forms they're not assigned to in Arts Workshop in what we call Spotlight Workshop; they cycle through Theatre, Dance, and Vocal tonight in three groups and visit a shorter workshop class of each art form. (Don't worry, they'll get a taste of Visual and Instrumental in other workshops on other days). That's right, they are immersed in EVERY art form while they're here! It's sooooo much fun!

Thank you so much for sharing your students with us this session. We'll consider returning them again on Wednesday. ;)
